BarCamp / BarcampLA-2

October 30th, 2006 in Personal

I’ve signed up and I’ll be speaking at this one. It’s being organized by a friend of mine, Kareem.

BarCamp / Barcamp LA 2

What is BarCamp?

(As stolen from BarCampNYC, as copied from…) BarCamp is an ad-hoc unconference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees.

All attendees must give a demo, a session, or help with one. All presentions are scheduled the day they happen. Prepare in advance, but come early to get a slot on the wall.

Presenters are responsible for making sure that notes/slides/audio/video of their presentations are published on the web for the benefit of all and those who can’t be present.

Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join.

There are no spectators, only participants!

When you come, be prepared to share with barcampers. When you leave, be prepared to share it with the world.

They say it’s your birthday

June 25th, 2006 in Personal

In a diviation from my typical Project Management stuff, I forgot to mention that it was my birthday last Weds., June 21, the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. We went to Disneyland to celebrate it.

According to the diagram below, I must be old now…

(OK, I wasn’t sure I wanted to link to this and I hope it doesn’t come back to haunt me, but… I was feeling goofy on my birthday…)

Flaming Monkeys

May 24th, 2006 in Personal

Sorry I haven’t written here for a while. There’s been a few things going on in life that have taken precedence.

My wife and I took a short vacation to celabrate being happily married for 20 years on May 3rd. We went to Prescott, AZ, which is out favorite get away place. We have a favorite B&B that we always stay at, The Prescott Pines Inn, but this time we stayed at the Hassayampa Hotel because they had free wireless and I wanted to stay close to work. We drove to Sedona, a few miles north, for a day. Shopping, dining, a Jacuzzi in the hotel room completed the trip. I bought my lovely wife a tourquise necklace made by our favorite jewelery makers, the Aldriches. Here’s a photo of us both with her wearing her new necklace.

20th AnniversaryLife got hectic when we got home with a close friend having some problems that we needed to help with. We also had the season finale of Survivor. I own that domain and it gets nailed with traffic on the first episode and the last episode of each season. I had to babysit the servers to make sure they didn’t go down under the load. Acording to my AdSense records, we had 111,467 page impresssions on the Monday after. Everyone was upset with how it ended and who didn’t win. The forum went wild with outraged viewers.

While that was going on, my wife got the stomach flu. She was writhing in pain in the middle of the night at one point. Spent the rest of the night in the bathroom. She started to feel better and I got the same thing. It felt like someone had beat me in my stomach. The worst part was the quality time in the bathroom. It felt like I had flaming monkeys coming out of my …

After I started to feel better, she relapsed, but not as badly. Each of these took a couple days. She started to feel better and I relapsed. I was about 3 days behind her. We both had tempratures and all of the same symptoms. I finally quit trying to keep up with work and just stayed in bed all day for two days. Now I feel a bit better. I think I’m going to live.

Back to talking about Project Management.
